NAAL is the surrealist, drone/rock project of Chicago native and award winning film composer Dave Mantel. What started as a bedroom-recorded instrumental rock project in 2013 has, over the years, developed in to a mature and established voice that combines elements of ambient and drone music, field recordings, and a multi-sensory live performance. NAAL explores the depths of simple, mostly a-melodic compositions, made up of thick layers of gently modulating tones and textures.
NAAL to date has released two full length records (A703, and 0-0-0), scored the award winning short film Claire McKenna (2018), collaborated with contemporaries and friends Lowercase Noises, Hotel Neon, Infinite Third, and is part of the debut year of releases by imprint Past Inside The Present, alongside staples of the genre Kyle Bobby Dunn, Hakobune, and more.
